How to find us
"I'll be standing at the front door of the church. We meet every Friday night at 7 PM."
First, we meet together in a large group to watch a video from our founder Steve Curington. During this time we receive prayer request and have prayer. We hear any praise from anyone who wants to share a blessing or an answer to prayer. Second, We break up into small challenge groups to say our challenges that we have been working on during the week. We hear any problem or question anyone in the group has. What is said in the group stays in the group. Discussion outside the small group of personal problems that are talked about during the small group is forbidden. We then pray about each request. Third, We return to the large group for a bible centered lecture that is designed to help us grow in our spiritual walk with Christ. At the end of the lecture we recognize individuals who have won awards. Then we all enjoy a snack together and have a time of fellowship
Steve Curington founded Reformers Unanimous in April 1996, to share the truth and principles that helped him overcome his addictions. The success rate is very high for the student who applies the curriculum and principles taught and is faithful to the meetings.
Other ministries offered by Calvary Baptist Church, Red Bank are: Bus Ministry, Adult and Children's Choir, Senior Citizen Ministry, College and Career, Ladies Fellowship, Nursery, Operation GO (a soul winning ministry), Visitation and Sports.
Common Questions Answered:
Question: What is the ministry of Reformers Unanimous?
Answer: Reformers Unanimous is a Christ-centered addictions program that directs the intemperate (undisciplined) believer and the unregenerate to God's support group- the local church.
Question: Explain what that means.
Answer: We believe that God designed His local church to be a support group for those who are hurting. Whether it is His children who are in need of restoration or an addict who is hopelessly lost without Christ, the church is God's instrument of support. The lost and found can cultivate a personal relationship with Christ at the local church. They can find emotional support by those who fulfill the law of Christ by bearing these folks burdens at the local church. They can find opportunities of worship and of service at the local church, which will help replace the large amounts of time that were once given over to Satan. At the local church they can establish friendships, which will help provide a way of escape from their temptations.
Question: When does where does your program meet?
Answer: We meet every Friday night between 7-9 PM at our church, Calvary Baptist Church, Red Bank.
Question: Why does your curriculum work?
Answer: It is a very simple biblical approach. First, it gets the student in the Bible. They have to READ the Bible. They have to MEMORIZE portions of the Bible. They must STUDY the Bible. They are required to HEAR the bible. Once God changes the way they think, He then changes the way they act.
Question: How do you motivate students to participate in the program?
Answer: We have created an awards based program, similar to the one God created for those who obey Him. In I Corinthians we see that if we build things of eternal value on our God given foundation, Christ Jesus, that we shall receive a reward. After leading them to Christ in the beginning books, we start to reward each student as they progress through the different levels of the program. Each level is a building block of eternal value. They love the awards.
Question: How is the leadership of this ministry directed?
Answer: Our program is under the authority of our pastor, Rev, Steve Roberson, brother Phil Minton is the director of our local Reformers Unanimous Program. The National arm of our ministry is under the authority of North Love Baptist Church, Rockford, IL.
Question: How does this program differ from other Christian recovery programs?
Answer: Well, first there is no such thing as Christian recovery. Christians ARE recovered. The TRUTH makes free. Christian victory i your life is something each of us searched to attain. The more we yield to to the Spirit's leading the more victory we experience. The same with a student who visits our class. Once they accept Christ they are in the same boat as my pastor: a saved sinner seeking tto become more like Christ.Their besetting sins are no more distasteful to God than my pastor or your pastor's sin.The TRUTH will set you free and the local church will bear your burdens. I am thankful that God gave me a church that did not teach that I needed anything more in my life than Christ.
Question: Does your program offer steps?
Answer: We do not. The world's philosophy for steps is unbiblical. They teach a process of steps that must be taken to gain acceptance by God. We believe there is only step to get right with God and that is to accept His free gift of salvation. There are many steps, however, to to stay right with God. We have put together, for the benefit of the students the Ten Principles that we teach.
